GB3: How it works

OultonParkJG-30

Calendar

The 2022 GB3 Championship comprises 24 races across eight events. Seven rounds take place in the UK, and one at Belgium’s famed Grand Prix circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.

Event format

The weekend format typically includes a 20-minute qualifying session and three 20-minute races. The grids are formed in qualifying using the below format:

Race 1: drivers’ fastest qualifying lap
Race 2: drivers’ second-fastest qualifying lap
Race 3: full reversed grid based on drivers’ fastest qualifying lap

For Race 3, that means the fastest driver in qualifying will start at the back, and the slowest at the front. This initiative is in place to educate drivers in defensive and attacking driving techniques.

Points structure

Race 1 and Race 2:

Additionally, bonus points are also awarded in Race 3 for positions gained during the race. For example, a driver winning from fifth on the grid would gain a total of 24 points (20 for victory + 4 for positions gained).
